Job Description
Overview: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic healthcare team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a crucial role in assisting surgeons and other medical professionals during surgical procedures. Your responsibilities will include preparing operating rooms, arranging surgical equipment, and ensuring a sterile environment. This position requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Pay: $26/hour
Responsibilities:
- Prepare Operating Room: Set up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies according to the procedure's requirements. Ensure that the operating room is ready for the surgical team.
- Assist Surgical Team: Pass instruments, sponges, and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth operation.
- Maintain Sterile Environment: Follow strict protocols to maintain a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure. Monitor and enforce aseptic techniques to prevent infections.
- Handle Surgical Equipment: Operate and maintain surgical equipment such as sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and diagnostic equipment. Troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.
- Patient Preparation: Assist in positioning and preparing patients for surgery. Help with draping and securing the surgical site to ensure optimal access for the surgical team.
- Surgical Documentation: Accurately document all surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, needles, and instruments. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies.
- Collaborate with Healthcare Team: Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure a positive surgical outcome.
- Provide Support in Emergencies: Remain calm and efficient during emergency situations in the operating room. Assist with resuscitation efforts and provide support as directed by the surgical team.
- Clean and Sterilize Equipment: Properly clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment after each procedure. Adhere to infection control guidelines to prevent the spread of pathogens.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on advances in surgical technology, procedures, and best practices. Participate in continuing education and training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Certification: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program and certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent certification.
- Experience: Previous experience working as a Surgical Technologist in a hospital or surgical center preferred.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of surgical procedures, anatomy, and medical terminology. Familiarity with surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile techniques.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well under pressure and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move heavy equipment, and assist with patient positioning.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required.
