Job Description

Position Summary:
The Buyer/Purchasing Specialist is responsible for procuring raw materials, parts, assemblies, equipment, supplies, and services at the most competitive prices while ensuring quality, quantity, and timely delivery. This role involves supplier selection, cost reduction strategies, and service-level management to optimize procurement processes.
Essential Functions:
  • Places purchase orders in MRP for production, non-production, and service-related items with approved suppliers.
  • Develops and implements procurement strategies, including blanket purchase orders, volume-based pricing discounts, and Kanban-supported inventory management.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with key suppliers through regular meetings, teleconferences, and site visits.
  • Issues requests for quotations (RFQs) to suppliers for new and existing parts to obtain competitive pricing and delivery schedules.
  • Negotiates pricing and terms with suppliers to achieve cost reductions and maintains records of cost savings.
  • Collaborates with product teams and vendors to address defective or unacceptable goods and determine corrective actions.
  • Monitors open order status and adjusts orders based on MRP changes (expediting, reducing, increasing, or canceling as needed).
  • Resolves supplier billing discrepancies to ensure accurate financial transactions.
  • Works closely with the receiving and quality assurance departments to address documentation and quality discrepancies on purchase orders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with MRP systems such as SAP, Epicor, or similar platforms.
Education & Experience:
  • College degree preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of purchasing and/or supply chain management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Coursework in purchasing or supply chain management is preferred.
