Phlebotomy Technician (Leave of Absence)

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hrs/week (flexibility for evenings/weekends may be needed)

We’re hiring a Phlebotomist / Laboratory Technician to support a busy community healthcare clinic. This role is responsible for high-quality specimen collection, basic waived testing, and coordinating lab workflow using an electronic health record (EHR). You’ll work closely with clinical staff to ensure accurate testing, smooth operations, and excellent patient service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection (blood, urine, pathology), ensuring proper labeling and patient identification
- Process and prepare specimens according to requirements to support accurate testing
- Perform basic in-house/waived testing, which may include urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep testing, microbiology prep, and PT/Protime determinations
- Use common point-of-care devices (e.g., HemoCue, glucometers) as applicable
- Enter, document, and transmit lab orders through the EHR; monitor lab queues and resolve basic issues
- Serve as a liaison with external lab vendors for routine technical items; escalate quality/admin concerns to leadership
- Maintain a clean, organized, fully stocked lab area; monitor supplies and equipment needs
- Perform equipment quality checks, calibration, and temperature logs (e.g., lab refrigerator)
- Support positive patient interactions; maintain confidentiality and follow clinic policies
- Assist with immunizations or other back-office support as requested
- Provide Spanish/English interpretation support when needed (preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or lab setting
- California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) — current/active
- BLS certification — current/active
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and stand/sit for extended periods
- Reliable transportation
- Medical Assistant certificate
- EHR experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Clinic setting with routine exposure to blood-borne pathogens; adherence to safety protocols and use of appropriate PPE is required.
