Nursing Consultant
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Nursing Consultant to provide critical onsite clinical and regulatory support across skilled nursing facilities. This is a temporary assignment designed for highly skilled professionals capable of delivering immediate, independent oversight in complex healthcare environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive clinical and regulatory audits to ensure compliance with state and federal standards.
- Identify clinical and operational deficiencies through direct facility observations and assessments.
- Develop and implement effective corrective action plans, including plans of correction, based on survey findings and clinical audits.
- Support and facilitate facility survey preparation, including responses to surveyor findings.
- Collaborate closely with facility leadership—Administrators, Directors of Nursing, and clinical teams—to address issues proactively and sustain continuous improvement.
- Encourage compliance through hands-on support, clinical evaluations, and staff education.
- Evaluate nursing systems, documentation, and practices to enhance quality of care and regulatory adherence.
- Assist in managing challenging facilities under regulatory scrutiny, including those with survey deficiencies or immediate jeopardy issues.
- Work independently to assess operational practices, engage with leadership, and hold teams accountable for corrective actions.
- Follow through to ensure all deficiencies are adequately addressed and resolved.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Active, unrestricted RN license.
- Extensive leadership experience in skilled nursing, post-acute, or long-term care settings.
- Proven track record as a Nursing Consultant, Regional Nurse, Clinical Consultant, or similar senior clinical oversight role spanning multiple facilities.
- Hands-on experience supporting regulatory surveys and preparing facilities to succeed.
- Deep knowledge of California skilled nursing regulatory requirements and CDPH survey processes.
- Experience working with facilities under regulatory scrutiny, including those with survey deficiencies, accreditation challenges, or in immediate jeopardy situations.
- Strong ability to independently evaluate clinical operations, identify issues, and develop actionable solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the capacity to collaborate effectively with clinical and administrative leadership.
- Prior consultant-level experience is essential for immediate contribution; candidates with only staff RN or DON roles without multi-facility oversight are not suitable.

- The role involves direct observation, clinical audits, and collaboration with facility leadership.
- Work involves evaluating clinical practices and documenting regulatory compliance.
- Flexibility to quickly begin and work across multiple facilities is essential.
