Job Description:
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Quality Inspector to join our dynamic, AS9100-certified manufacturing team. This role is vital in ensuring that fabricated parts and assemblies meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will perform detailed visual and dimensional inspections, identify nonconformances, and collaborate with teams to uphold our commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough visual inspections of sheet metal, machined components, and assemblies to detect defects such as cracks, dents, warping, burrs, corrosion, and pitting.
- Assess surface finish quality, including discoloration, damage, contamination, and cosmetic deviations.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, quality plans, and customer specifications to ensure compliance.
- Verify part identification, traceability, and proper marking in accordance with AS9100 standards and customer requirements.
- Record and document nonconformances, generate NCRs, and communicate issues promptly to Quality and Production Supervisors.
- Perform in-process and final inspections before shipment to guarantee product readiness.
- Support root cause analysis and participate in corrective action investigations to resolve recurring quality issues.
- Maintain accurate and organized inspection records, checklists, and logs in compliance with AS9100 and internal procedures.
- Collaborate closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to troubleshoot issues and improve manufacturing processes.
- Ensure inspection tools, gauges, and equipment are properly maintained, calibrated, and validated.
- Assist in internal and external quality audits, demonstrating adherence to industry standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in visual and dimensional inspection within metal fabrication, machining, or aerospace manufacturing environments.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including basic GD&T principles.
- Familiarity with aerospace quality standards such as AS9100 is a plus.
- Proficient with measurement tools like calipers and micrometers.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong observational skills, and a keen eye for surface and workmanship defects.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer literacy.
- Knowledge of inspection software and calibration procedures is advantageous.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in quality inspection, preferably in aerospace or precision manufacturing sectors.
- Experience working in sheet metal, machining, or welding environments is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality management systems is a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Primarily performed on the manufacturing floor, involving standing and walking for extended periods.
- Exposure to noise, dust, metal shavings, and potential hazards including sharp objects.
- Use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection is required.
- Ability to lift objects up to 30 lbs and stand continuously.
- Excellent vision (corrected or uncorrected), including color differentiation, is essential for inspection tasks.
