Materials Manager

As a Materials Manager, you will oversee planning, procurement, storage, and distribution of materials and supplies required for operations across all of our sites.  This role ensures optimal inventory levels, cost efficiency, and timely availability of materials.  In this role, you will collaborate closely with production, procurement, logistics, and finance to achieve our organizational goals.  If you have strong leadership abilities, strong strategy and negotiation abilities, a high level of attention to detail and organization, and are able to effectively collaborate and communicate cross-functionally

What you will do:

Procurement and Supplier Management
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure cost-effective and timely acquisition of materials.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts and terms for optimal pricing and service.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and ensure compliance with quality and delivery standards.
Inventory Management
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to prevent overstocking or shortages.
  • Implement inventory control procedures to optimize stock levels and reduce carrying costs.
  • Conduct regular audits and ensure accurate inventory records.
Production Coordination
  • Collaborate with production and operations teams to forecast material needs based on production schedules.
  • Ensure materials are available to meet production timelines without interruptions.
Logistics and Warehousing
  • Oversee the storage, handling, and distribution of materials in warehouses.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations for storage and handling.
  • Optimize logistics and transportation to reduce lead times and costs.
Budgeting and Cost Control
  • Develop and manage the materials budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Analyze spending trends and recommend strategies to improve efficiency.
Team Leadership
  • Supervise and mentor the materials management team, including but not limited to, hiring, performance management, employee development and coaching. 
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence and collaboration within the team.
Compliance and Reporting
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on inventory, procurement, and cost performance to management.

What you bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Mgmt., Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s Degree Preferred).
  • Proven experience (5+) years in materials management, supply chain, or a similar role in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain processes, inventory management, and procurement practices.
  • Minimum of 3+ years leading and developing a team is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and inventory management software.
  • Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills, organization and time-management, and strong negotiation interpersonal skills
  • CPSM, APICS, or Lean Six Sigma certifications preferred but not require
