Job Description:
A dedicated appellate law firm is seeking a skilled contract attorney to support our growing caseload of civil and criminal appeals filed in California. This is a remote, project-based position with flexible hours.
In this role, you will assist with reviewing trial court records, conducting legal research, drafting briefs, and contributing to appellate strategy. Candidates must have strong writing skills and familiarity with California appellate procedure.
Responsibilities:
- Draft high-quality appellate briefs, writ petitions, and supporting motions
- Analyze trial court records and identify viable appellate issues
- Collaborate with lead counsel on strategy and revisions
- Track deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules and formatting requirements
- Licensed to practice in California (strongly preferred) or eligible to assist under supervision and relevant rules of professional conduct
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
- Detail-oriented and capable of working independently
- Experience with California court rules and filing systems is a plus
