Position Summary
We are seeking a strategic, empathetic, and results-driven HR leader to join our Senior Management team as Director of Human Resources, with a clear succession path to Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) within 18+ months. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of HR at a growing commercial bank by developing a high-performing HR team and embedding a culture of partnership, accountability, and care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the REVP of HR and executive leadership, preparing to assume full HR leadership responsibilities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small but capable HR team, elevating their capabilities to meet evolving business needs.
  • Foster a culture of empathy, accountability, and excellence across the HR function.
  • Partner with business leaders to align HR strategy with the bank’s growth goals—from $4B to $7B in assets.
  • Strengthen HR’s role as both a business accelerator and a risk manager, ensuring compliance and protecting the bank from employment-related risks.
  • Oversee and improve execution of performance management processes to ensure consistency and impact.
  • Conduct or oversee an HR compliance audit to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Maintain and enhance existing compensation and performance management frameworks.
  • Design and lead recruitment strategies that attract top talent, directly supporting business growth and operational excellence.

HR Functional Leadership
The Director will oversee and continuously improve all core HR functions, including:
  • Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning – Align hiring strategies with business needs and future growth.
  • Employee Relations – Promote a positive, compliant, and respectful workplace culture.
  • Learning & Development – Build a learning culture that supports employee growth and leadership development.
  • Organizational Development – Support change management and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
  • HR Compliance & Risk Management – Ensure adherence to employment laws and internal policies.
  • HR Policies & Procedures – Maintain clear, consistent, and up-to-date HR policies.
  • HR Metrics & Analytics – Use data to inform decisions and demonstrate HR’s impact on business outcomes.
  • Payroll function and ancillary reporting necessary for Bank Management, Finance and Compliance.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a senior HR role.
  • Experience in commercial banking, investment banking, or financial services strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop HR teams in dynamic, regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, compliance, and risk mitigation in financial services.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; able to lead with both firmness and empathy.
  • Demonstrated success in building HR functions that are seen as strategic business partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or HR certifications (e.g., SPHR, SHRM-SCP) preferred.

Qualifications

10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a senior HR role.

Experience in commercial banking, investment banking, or financial services strongly preferred.

Proven ability to lead and develop HR teams in dynamic, regulated environments.

Strong understanding of employment law, compliance, and risk mitigation in financial services.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; able to lead with both firmness and empathy.

Demonstrated success in building HR functions that are seen as strategic business partners.

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or HR certifications (e.g., SPHR, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
