Job Description

The Lead is responsible for working with the Café Manager on the day to day operations at the café. The café management team strives to create a personable and memorable experience for all guests by providing them with top-notch service, quality beverages and food, as well as ensuring the café is a comfortable environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:
 
  • Consistently provide quality beverages and food through selection and variety of products, quality control and seasonality.
  • Type and communicate the menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch.
  • Review daily checklist tasks. Supervise and delegate to the staff to ensure daily tasks are completed and ready for service.
  • Update the POSI register software and café website with weekly menus.
  • Manage weekly inventory of coffee, milks, snacks, beverages and supplies. Place orders as needed.
  • Train new team members by positively reinforcing standards and performance; give respectful and encouraging coaching as needed. Provide maintenance training to existing staff as needed.
  • Manage employee relation issues and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Assist the Café Manager with staff scheduling.
  • Plan and prepare for daily caterings and liaison with the kitchen staff.
  • Plan and prepare for daily lunch orders to offsite buildings.
  • Supervise the inventory needed for the Avanti market areas at the offsite buildings.
  • Review daily sales reports and provide to Accounting as requested.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of all food and beverage products sold and their ingredients.
  • Highlight and market café items and recommend pairings to customers based on purchases.
  • Act with integrity, honesty and knowledge always.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor during high volume periods or atypical events.
  • Monitor guest traffic to ensure transactions are always processed in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with guests using clear and enthusiastic words, tone and body language. Make guests feel welcome and appreciated.
  • Resolve any guest concerns.
  • Anticipate and respond to guest’s questions and needs.
  • Follow all policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of all.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workplace at all times.
  • Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma or GED. Physical requirements/Work Environment
This position primarily operates behind the café counter in close proximity to co-workers.
  • The noise level in the café can be loud.
  • Requires long hours of constant standing, walking, continuous reaching, bending, lifting, carrying, stooping, and wiping.
  • Must be able to lift and / or move objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to manipulate fingers, hands, and arms to scoop, tamp, cut, measure, pour, serve, carry and wipe. 
  • The physical demands of the job described herein are considered essential functions and employees must be able to successfully perform these tasks for extended periods.
