2nd Shift
PURPOSE AND PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITES
Following prescribed machine shop methods and procedures, operates a variety of CNC machine tools to produce parts in a production environment as specified in blue prints and production planners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Operates machine tools in a production environment to produce parts in accordance with specifications and blue prints.
- Maintains, lubricates, and degreases production machines and equipment.
- Loads parts for machining and performs periodic quality checks for conformance to specifications and planning documents.
- Loads program tapes or cards and makes specific control settings.
- Requires close hand/eye coordination, high manual dexterity including rapid hand and finger movements, and simultaneous use of both hands.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and follow verbal instructions in English or Spanish.
- Must have knowledge and CNC Programming techniques and SPC.
Works in a factory environment and is exposed to dirt, heat, grit, sparks, noise, fumes, and dust.
Duties and responsibilities performed normally do require special physical requirements including standing, walking, bending over, crouching, pushing, pulling, repetitive foot control, repetitive use of hands, grasping, fine dexterity, and occasional lifting of material up to 50 pounds.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN CLASSIFICATION
CNC Machinist A
- Works under limited supervision.
- Selects, sets-up, and adjusts tooling according to specifications and planner.
- Uses precision instruments to check and inspect own parts for quality.
- Examples of machine tools operated
- CNC Vertical Mills CNC Lathes CNC Drill/Tap
- May modify tooling and fixtures to turn out best quality parts.
- May be required to edit or write programs as required.
- Requires 3 - 6 years of on-the-job machine shop experience.
- Works under general supervision.
- Selects, sets-up, and adjusts tooling according to specifications and planner.
- First article parts are checked by lead.
- Examples of machine tools operated:
- CNC Vertical Mills CNC Lathes CNC Drill/Tap
- May perform basic programming and editing.
- Requires 6 months to 2 years of on-the-job machine experience.
