Job Description
Summary
Under limited supervision, performs a wide variety of repetitive and non-repetitive bench or line mechanical and electromechanical subassembly and assembly operations of a semi-skilled or complex nature to produce products. Holds work center accountable to meet productivity, efficiency, and quality objectives. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions. Also makes required minor adjustments in the assemblies as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Leads high volume production line with objectives of meeting daily productivity and quality goals.
- Leads work cell to assemble components, requiring manual dexterity, machine operation and the ability to work with simple hand tools.
- Provides training and instruction to work cell team on day-to-day assignments.
- Reviews ongoing productivity levels, ensuring both equipment and personnel are achieving targets. Adjust equipment or personnel as necessary, including the scheduling of overtime (with supervisor/manager input and approval).
- Works at different workstations as production needs require.
- Uses a variety of hand and power tools to perform skilled fitting and assembly work. Inspect parts and performs basic tests.
- Adjusts or trims materials from components to achieve specified electrical or dimensional characteristics.
- Positions and aligns parts in specified relationship to each other in jig, fixture, or other holding device.
- Crimps, stakes, screws, bolts, rivets, welds, solders, cements, press fits, or performs similar operations to join or secure parts in place.
- May perform other assembly tasks such as potting, encapsulating, sanding, cleaning, epoxy bonding, curing, stamping, etching, impregnating, and color-coding parts and assemblies.
- Troubleshoots and replaces defects of finished products.
- Reworks and repairs defective units rejected by inspection or test personnel.
- Follows safety procedures in the use and handling of flammable and hazardous chemicals required to meet all cleanliness specifications.
- Must be able to follow specific procedures and detailed instructions completely.
- Ensures that quality checks are completed throughout the manufacturing process.
- Records information on production records, logs, and other report forms.
- Communicates the departmental goals, objectives, and status on a daily basis.
- Both push and pull in accordance with the production schedule.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level assemblers including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization’s policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving technically related work problems.

Education and/or Experience
Vocational or Technical Certificate or some college level courses in related field, minimum of 5 years of experience, and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend work instructions and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine reports and simple correspondence.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to enter time and data into a computer system. Requires knowledge of database software; inventory software; manufacturing software; spreadsheet software and/or word processing software.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of one-piece flow, JIT manufacturing and able to identify constraints and factors effecting production rates while able to provide quality checks and finalize documentation.
- Experienced in using hand tools and some power tools (power drills, sanders etc.).
- Understanding of mechanical hardware (nuts, bolts, screws, etc.) assembly.
- Understanding of blueprints, Bill of Materials and mechanical drawings.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen.
- Prior work cell lead and/or experience training others preferred.
- Availability to work overtime Monday through Saturday as required.
