Transportation Director
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Transportation Director to lead a specialized non-emergency transportation program. This individual will oversee daily transportation operations, ensure full regulatory compliance, and promote a culture centered on safety, reliability, and exceptional service. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and optimize daily transportation routes to meet client needs efficiently.
- Assign drivers and vehicles to maximize coverage, efficiency, and schedule adherence.
- Oversee dispatch operations and maintain clear, ongoing communication with drivers and staff.
- Manage fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, repairs, tracking, and recordkeeping.
- Ensure all fleet and operational records are accurate, current, and compliant with applicable standards.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with all applicable DOT, CHP, DMV, and other local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain transportation scheduling software and databases, ensuring accurate data entry and reporting.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, invoices, and performance documentation for agency and partner requirements.
- Oversee financial reconciliation for the transportation program, including collection and tracking of funds.
- Operate and maintain communication and routing equipment essential to daily transportation services.
- Serve as a liaison between transportation operations, internal staff, drivers, contractors, and external partners.
- Stay informed on industry updates, regulatory changes, and best practices by attending relevant seminars, conferences, and meetings.
- Coordinate driver training and maintain all compliance-related documentation in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Lead, supervise, and support all transportation staff and contracted personnel.
- Promote professionalism, accountability, safety, and service excellence across the team.
- Provide operational leadership and continuity in the absence of key personnel as needed.
- Prior transportation management experience required; experience within non-emergency transportation, healthcare transportation, paratransit, or other service-focused transportation environments strongly preferred.
- Experience with Route Match Scheduling or similar transportation scheduling software preferred.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented in high-pressure situations.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service and service excellence.
- College degree from an accredited institution preferred.
- Valid Class B Driver’s License with passenger endorsement highly desirable.
- DMV/CHP-approved commercial driver/passenger trainer certification preferred.
- Substance abuse prevention and drug/alcohol testing certification is a plus.
- Strong critical thinking skills and sound independent judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of professionalism, dependability, and initiative.
- Ability to interpret and apply safety rules, operating manuals, and performance reports.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Sufficient visual and auditory ability to safely perform essential job functions and operate required equipment.
